De Soto: Coffee | Wine | Books

Coffee | Wine | Book bar in Talabay - Aqaba - Jordan a project by AbidiوHakki DeSoto, inspired by the Spanish traveler is a coffee, book and wine bar located in the marina of Aqaba in the south of Jordan. It celebrates the renowned Spanish traveler Hernando DeSoto. As a consequence its architecture and branding depicts a mini biography of his travels. Lucidly evident through the iceberg of branding, the logo is an emblematic sketch symbolic of DeSoto’s features, as his beard swirls into a relevant composition of design representative sea waves. On a larger scale the interior experience is wholesome to the concept, one is immediately engulfed by the unbound woodwork that orients a seamless flow accompanied by graphically tailored wall murals. The story behind the concept is based on our fictional imagination of DeSotos shipwreck. Fabricating a space beneath the hull that is realized from the bottom framework of the vessel

The murals are rich in rustic design formations that are diverse in visual displays of
historical information about DeSotos life and main events. Other murals are exploding worn-out appearing maps noting wine and coffee facts for the customers to acquire and enjoy
The client was concerned the existing trees took much space of the outdoor terrace compromising the ideal seating arrangement. After much, much persuasion we convinced the client to allow us to design the tables with the trees as their centre piece.

Alas they are the most sought after sunset seats.
